By now, many of us have already given-up on half-hearted "New Year's Resolutions", promises made that we had no plan for, things that we could not sustain. Thankfully God is so much better than that; His promises do not return void. Also, we're coming up on the 7th anniversary of this iteration of the Internet Missionary, basically which was only a Facebook page at the time.  That page continues to grow gradually. The old conservative Baptist leader took a look at it, back in the day, 2016, and said, "that's a great idea!".  He was of the old stripe, and a glutton for conversation when out in public.  He had a knack for shifting the conversation to the Gospel, and he worked on strangers all the time, inviting them to church and also sharing with them his own testimony.

Thomas Nelson Verse of the Day, and Christ's advice to leaders.

Christ's word about #leadership, that a basic tenet of leading well, is actually to support the team, to support the working staff, such the First appears quite often last. Some misunderstand these principles, thinking that the manager does the same work as the employees, but know, the manager is like a utility, enabling the staff to do the work, by facilitating and aiding them, however might be necessary.  This is made much of in #projectmanagement, that managers sometimes plan on taking on themselves, a portion of production, as if they were line employees too, but then the same managers are constantly called-on by the staff, such that they don't get a significant portion of work done, for lack of quality time on the production line.

cs lewis, william paley and Father God.

Earlier in the week I came across a CS Lewis line, that you don't get to know a builder by looking at the houses he's built.  If you want to know the builder, you talk to that builder himself.  In the same sense, Lewis meant that to know God, we needn't necessarily do the mystical and look to the natural world around us, but seek God through prayer. In that same way, Paul reminds that we are spiritual, and not bound to the flesh.  We may, through prayer, seek God in the spiritual way. Mind also, in a book called Natural Theology, a scientist brilliantly said that if he walked on a beach, and found a pocket watch in the sand, he wouldn't think it was just a random miracle of nature, that it was "created".  By the same token, he talked at length about how natural items are "created" in the same way, that if he picked up a pebble or a shell on the beach, he wouldn't think it was a random accident of the cosmos, but a thing that was consciously creat...

Tozer on free will.

I think it might be well for us to check our spiritual condition occasionally by the simple test of compatibility. When we are free to go, where do we go? In what company do we feel most at home? Where do our thoughts turn when they are free to turn where they will? When the pressure of work or business or school has temporarily lifted and we are able to think of what we will instead of what we must, what do we think of then?   -AW Tozer Paypal id for donations and gifts to the site: kaneroseup@gmail.com

a modern beset canaanite.

Life had beaten him down, and, a confused man, he set not always upright, but took a few shortcuts.  His social circle practiced the same lifestyle, and they took shortcuts in regards to him. Life waa fast, and love faster.  As quickly and heatedly as it came, it as quickly departed him. Love came. Devil took it. Steady job? Devil took it. He would disrespect authority, and authority distrusted him; they were at odds, with mutual enmity. Just as Job was set on, the devil was just getting started in his unhappy life, but he lived, of course, true to his first instincts, and his appetites, and maybe even loved. Some people look at those wayward anticipating the joy of them returning to the fold; it could very well happen, and as they still live, hope lives. The devil at a control panel pushing buttons, finding no deterrence, no resistance, and the fundamental kerflopple of the thing, what was original sin, to know good and evil, but he, our query, in a kind of confusion, marks t...

If by grace we win the day, as we shall if we truly follow our conquering Leader, then we shall be admitted to the very center of the paradise of God and shall be permitted to pass by the cherub and his flaming sword and come to that guarded tree, whereof if a man eat, he shall live forever. We shall thus escape that endless death which is the doom of sin and gain that everlasting life which is the seal of innocence, the outgrowth of immortal principles of Godlike holiness. Come, my heart, pluck up courage! To flee the conflict will be to lose the joys of the new and better Eden; to fight unto victory is to walk with God in paradise. - Charles Spurgeon

Cowman on tribulation's imprint....

Image
The valley-way opens into the highway. Tribulation's imprint is on all great things. Crowns are cast in crucibles. Chains of character that wind about the feet of God are forged in earthly flames. No man is greatest victor till he has trodden the winepress of woe. With seams of anguish deep in His brow, the "Man of Sorrows" said, "In the world ye shall have tribulation"--but after this sob comes the psalm of promise, "Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." -LB Cowman Paypal donations accept at kaneroseup@gmail.com Our Cashapp cashtag is $origen1979

chambers on being born again.

Being born again by the Spirit is an unmistakable work of God, as mysterious as the wind, and as surprising as God Himself. We don’t know where it begins— it is hidden away in the depths of our soul. Being born again from above is an enduring, perpetual, and eternal beginning. It provides a freshness all the time in thinking, talking, and living— a continual surprise of the life of God .  -Oswald Chambers

a tithe logger spreadsheet.

Ministry partner Calabra Data has assembled a tithe calculating spreadsheet for 2023, with each week listed on the sheet. One simply lists income, and the sheet automatically computes the tithe and also shows the remaining monies left over after the tithe is paid. If interested, check it out here, on Gumroad.

on retaining the good congregation and still reaching towards the Prodigal.

For one, I am very thankful to the Lord for the household of faith; it called to me many years back, and even when their arms weren't ready to receive me, the Lord was ready and willing.  As was said, the spirit might yet be willing, but the flesh might not be able; but herein we perhaps tender the flesh and aim it towards its own mark, the preparation of hopeful message for weary ears. I have said once before that YHWH loves as a father loves his child, and he knows us intimately with only the knowledge a creator could possible have. We have spoken of LOVE and TRUTH as Light, maybe FAITH as Light, and it's quite something, the impetus to get on a hilltop and just shine away, to get on social media and spread the message, maybe even praise God in conversation with our friends. Shining a light on a hill, like the city on a hill, which is the household of faith. But dare we shine in the valleys?  Do we realize, even, that we shine in our valleys?  Do we realize that we at l...

Bible Gateway's verse of the day, being blameless in a crooked and perverse nation, shining a light.

Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain .   -from Philippians( KJV) The word of Life, the divine Logos, is part of our Light, the Light that we spread across the world, alternately called by Paul and John, this Light, truth and love. I recall in the Gladiator film, Rome was said to be the light, and at various times, the Light has came from many parts of the world, from Arabic scholars to Mayan and Incan astronomers.  But after the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed, the Light came from our hearts, the hearts of the believers, a Gospel opened by Paul, unleashed on the Gentiles that the entire world might believe and live, and not only just live, but live more abundantly. payp...

in the employ of the Lord.

1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;   2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. - 2 Corinthians 4:1-2 What a blessing to be in the employ of the Lord!  There could be no better office manager--not a slave driver or an overlord, but one who loves as befitting a Father, one who knows us, as befitting our Creator.

a few editorial notes about the ministry

Image
What we see here above is a spirited remake of yesterday's meme, which had the site name written in huge letters on it.  This is more tasteful, we think, in retrospect.  The idea isn't specifically to advertise the site, so it need not be a huge bulletin board with our URL on it, but rather tastefully toned-down.  This way, its more clear that the idea is to share the Gospel, and not necessarily to promote the site. On that note, we've already discussed here the budgeting for the site.  We get volunteer hours here, a lot of volunteer hours, and our budget is very low.  That said, some of our ministry partners are in a different situation.  They are not as comfortable as we are, and some of them are facing having to budget their food, particularly one of our orphanage partners. This leads us to a notion of making a specific fund for those partners, and not just splitting a piece of our take to them, still doing that, giving a total percentage, but maki...

Kempis on the Cross

a rare Internet Missionary "NIV verse of the day".

Image
This was a paraphrase of David's old petition to God after he sinned with Bathsheba and ordered her husband to his death.

A hedge and a petition to Christ himself.

God hedges in His own that He may preserve them, but oftentimes they only see the wrong side of the hedge, and so misunderstand His dealings.   -LB Cowman Suppose we go to Jesus now about the evils of today. Oh, this we may be sure -- He will not refuse us audience or cast us out. Those of us who have often been and those who have never gone before -- let us go together, and we shall see that He will not shut the door of His grace in the face of any one of us. -Charles H Spurgeon

a repeated line in Psalms 42 and 43.

It was, for its time, a "hot lyric", or better still, one of those themes that the pastor king repeated for his people. "Why art thou cast down, O my soul?  and why art thou disquieted in me?  hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance." -PS 42 "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?  hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God." - Ps 43 So God is the key to a good mindset, we not only emulate God's calm demeanor and strength, but we petition Him and give praise.  We get our own #mindset from God Himself in the end. "O send out thy light and truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles."

On the benefits of going to a church, in person.

One thing should be said.  Online ministry is just a supplement at the very best, in the place of a brick-and-mortar church fellowship.  We can't do justice to a real church without noting the diligence and counsel of a pastor and deacons, duly elected and appointed church officials, who are put in place for your benefit as a church-goer. Also, fellowship with other believers is important.  These fellow church people are going through some of the same problems as you, and facing some similar challenges in their daily walks. Online ministry is just a helper to all this, and not a satisfactory replacement. Go to church, give your 10% to the church, putting it into God's storehouse. This site on the other hand, has a tip jar which is just for people that want to give to our organization; it is not required, nor demanded.  You can donate  here(site tip jar).

Tozer on knowing God.

Let a Christian insist upon rising above the poor average of current religious experience and he will soon come up against the need to know God Himself as the ultimate goal of all Christian doctrine. Let him seek to explore the sacred wonders of the Triune Godhead and he will discover that sustained and intelligently directed meditation on the Person of God is imperative. To know God well he must think on Him unceasingly. Nothing that man has discovered about himself or God has revealed any short cut to pure spirituality. It is still free, but tremendously costly. -AW Tozer

Spurgeon on devotion in being saved.

The believer did not always live to Christ. He began to do so when God the Holy Spirit convinced him of sin, and when by grace he was brought to see the dying Saviour making a propitiation for his guilt. From the moment of the new and celestial birth the man begins to live to Christ. Jesus is to believers the one pearl of great price, for whom we are willing to part with all that we have. He has so completely won our love, that it beats alone for him; to his glory we would live, and in defence of his gospel we would die; he is the pattern of our life, and the model after which we would sculpture our character.  -Charles H Spurgeon

AW Tozer on politics...

It is not complimentary to the masses that they are so easily led, but we are not interested in praising or blaming; we are concerned for truth, and the truth is that for better or for worse religious people follow leaders. A good man may change the moral complexion of a whole nation; or a corrupt and worldly clergy may lead a nation into bondage....  -AW Tozer
